  1. I do something very similar to your rings. Mine are called skill rings. I have been doing these for several years and love them. I love the idea of putting on the ones they know and only having 3 they don't know!! I am going to try this tomorrow because tomorrow is when I start sending home words to go with our reading series. What a great way to differentiate and keep everyone challenged!!

  3. This is great!! Thanks for sharing!! How do you create a post like this current one? Cute background, boards around pics and words?

Where did you get the cute plaid background?

    Thanks!!

  5. Miss J-I create my posts in power point, save as a png and then use windows live writer to publish. The backgrounds are scanned in scrapbooking paper then I can format my background in power point. The colored boxes around the pictures ae just done in format picture and choose a color and size for the border. Finally, the other boxes are just text boxes. And, same thing, just choose format and pick color, size, and type of border you want. Good luck! :)

  6. Curious...what are the numbers on the front of their cards for?? :)

  7. Ashley, The numbers are there so that I would know where to hang them. Megan hangs all of hers in a row on a set of low cabinets that are in her room. But, in my room I had them hung on the sides of 3 different cabinets. I wanted to hang them in the same place so that the kiddos would know where they were. My kids would go and get their rings for their writing. Plus, if they missed 3 or more words, I could tell them to go hang them back up and they knew where to put them. Make sense?

  8. Ashley-Oh, so all the 1's were on one cabinet, all the 2's on another cabinet and all the 3's on another cabinet.

  12. This is great! I am learning sooooo much. Thanks for sharing your talents. Any possible way we could get your lists? also...the traveling word walls? Are they in TPT? Do they ever take their word rings home for practice? Do you make print & laminate new ones each year? Are words on ring the same color as words on word wall? Sorry for all the questions...love this, want to start tomorrow & do it right!!!! hugs!

  13. Beadboard: You do have a lot of questions! :) Let's see...
    1. The traveling word wall is from Bookmaking Bonanza. It is available on my website, but you could easily make your own with excel. Mine is a little differnt because I made it to match my class theme.
    2. They do not take their rings home. However, I do have a set of letters that I send home that have text boxes with the words for the parents to cut out and keep at home. I will try and get those posted in the next few.
    3. My word cards are laminated and stored in long file boxes alphabetically.
    4. They are the same color as those on the word wall.
    5. Are you wanting a list of the words?
Hope this is enough to get you started in the morning. :)

  14. Thank you so much! A list of the words will be GREAT. I'm the only K teacher at my school. Common Core does not specifically give a concrete list. (That I can find.) Thanks TONS. God bless you real good!

  15. I was wondering if you remove words after a while. We used to do word rings, but the students would read the words and if they read them correctly 3 times we would take them off and add some more. I like the way that the students have words that they know on the ring so that they feel successful. Just wondering whether you remove some of the words after they read them so many times. Thanks for the post. I can't wait to see you at the Kindergarten Conference in Atlanta.
