We have been working on this hard and the kiddos are just starting to grasp the concept. I LOVE your posters!! I am going to have to try those soon. Kids definitely learn from modeling!! Robynn BusyBees
The anchor charts for buddy reading are a great idea that I intend to use in my classroom as well. I have found that anchor charts are a great tool that allows students a reminder of what they should be doing during this workshop time. Shared reading is something that most of my students do on their own, however many of them do not understand how to get the most out of this time. Explicitly teaching what shared reading should look like is very helpful for many students who are unsure of what they should be doing with their partners.
I agree with Robynn that modeling is incredibly important. Many students do not know what to do, every when it comes to the simplest things, until you show them what you expect. Especially in Kindergarten, we model everything from how to hold a book to how to talk to your classmates.
Kim is a retired kindergarten teacher! She taught kindergarten for 30 years and now works as a national presenter. Now that she is retired, she spends her time volunteering in Meagn's room. When she isn't working at Megan's school, she loves to garden and spend time with her family. She and Andy, her husband, have two children, Megan, who is married to Nick, and Tyler, who is married to Ginny. That also have a beagle named Katie Ann. Megan followed in her mom's footsteps and is also a kindergarten teacher. She loves building relationsips with her kiddos and their families. When she isn't teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family. She is married to Nick. They enjoy all the GA sports teams! She and Nick have a miniature dachshund named Lily Grace.
